Homelessness in San Francisco

According to the 2017 Point-in-Time Count, the number of people experiencing homelessness in San Fran is 7,499. Experts agree that when you take into account the "hidden homeless" (ie. people who are couch surfing or living in unsuitable conditions), the number is closer to 10,000-12,000.

33%

33% of the homeless population in San Francisco identify as female and 30% identified as LGBTQ.

65%

65 percent of homeless respondents identified as an ethnic minority. An estimated 34% of homeless survey respondents were black, even though African-Americans make up only six percent of the city’s overall population.
